Iraq – Kurdistan Region
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is a culturally rich and geographically stunning area, encompassing the governorates of Erbil (Hewlêr), Sulaimani, Duhok, and Halabja. It borders Syria (Rojava) to the west, Iran (Rojhilat) to the east, and Turkey (Bakur) to the north, where the Zagros Mountains meet fertile plains.

• Geography: The region is known for its breathtaking mountainous terrain. Average elevations reach 2,400 meters, with peaks soaring up to 3,300 meters. The tallest, Mount Halgurd, stands at 3,660 meters near the Iranian border. These mountains are home to the region’s only forested areas and are traversed by the Sirwan and Tigris rivers, as well as the Great Zab and Little Zab tributaries.
